A classic comfort food, Salisbury steak with mushroom gravy is a hearty dish that brings warmth and nostalgia to your dining table.

  • Total Time: 45

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon flour (optional for thickening)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • Form the mixture into 4 oval patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the sliced mushrooms. Sauté for about 5 minutes, or until they are soft and browned.
  • Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up any brown bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring it to a simmer.
  • If you want a thicker gravy, mix 1 tablespoon of flour with a little water to create a slurry, then slowly stir it into the gravy. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until it thickens.
  • Add the patties back to the skillet, spooning the gravy over them. Let them simmer for about 5 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  • Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
