  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 8 hamburger buns (for serving)
  • optional Coleslaw (for topping)
  • optional Pickles (for topping)

Instructions

  • Start by mixing the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Rub this mixture all over the pork shoulder.
  • Place the seasoned pork in a slow cooker or a Dutch oven. If using a slow cooker, cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours. For a Dutch oven, cover and bake in a preheated oven at 300°F for about 4 hours.
  • Once the pork is cooked and tender, remove it from the cooker. Let it rest for about 15 minutes before shredding it with two forks.
  • Toss the shredded pork with your choice of BBQ sauce, ensuring each piece is coated well. You can add more sauce if desired.
  • Toast the hamburger buns lightly on the grill or in the oven for added flavor. This step is optional but adds a nice touch.
  • Assemble the sandwiches by placing a generous amount of pulled pork on the bottom half of the bun. Top with coleslaw and pickles, if using.
