Ingredients
Scale
- 4 pounds pork shoulder (or pork butt)
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup BBQ sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 8 hamburger buns (for serving)
- optional Coleslaw (for topping)
- optional Pickles (for topping)
Instructions
- Start by mixing the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, brown sugar, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Rub this mixture all over the pork shoulder.
- Place the seasoned pork in a slow cooker or a Dutch oven. If using a slow cooker, cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours. For a Dutch oven, cover and bake in a preheated oven at 300°F for about 4 hours.
- Once the pork is cooked and tender, remove it from the cooker. Let it rest for about 15 minutes before shredding it with two forks.
- Toss the shredded pork with your choice of BBQ sauce, ensuring each piece is coated well. You can add more sauce if desired.
- Toast the hamburger buns lightly on the grill or in the oven for added flavor. This step is optional but adds a nice touch.
- Assemble the sandwiches by placing a generous amount of pulled pork on the bottom half of the bun. Top with coleslaw and pickles, if using.
- Serve immediately and enjoy the delicious flavors of your patriotic BBQ pulled pork sandwiches!
