  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating)

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter until well combined.
  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
  • Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to about 1/2-inch thickness.
  • Cut into squares or circles with a knife or dough cutter.
  • Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  • Carefully drop the dough pieces into the hot oil, frying a few at a time until golden brown.
  • Remove the beignets and drain on paper towels.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the sugar and cinnamon for the coating.
  • While the beignets are still warm, dip them in honey and then roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
