Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (preferably 80/20 for juiciness)
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon thyme (dried or fresh)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices of Gruyère cheese (or Swiss cheese)
  • 4 burger buns (toasted)
  • Optional: fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the onions in olive oil over medium heat for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Add beef broth and thyme to the onions and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Shape ground beef into four patties, season with salt and pepper, and make a small indentation in the center.
  4. Cook patties in a skillet or grill for 4-5 minutes on each side until desired doneness.
  5. Add a slice of cheese on each patty in the last minute and cover to melt.
  6. Assemble burgers with toasted buns, cheese patties, and caramelized onions; garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes
