- 1 pound ground beef (preferably 80/20 for juiciness)
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon thyme (dried or fresh)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices of Gruyère cheese (or Swiss cheese)
- 4 burger buns (toasted)
- Optional: fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Caramelize the onions in olive oil over medium heat for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- Add beef broth and thyme to the onions and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Shape ground beef into four patties, season with salt and pepper, and make a small indentation in the center.
- Cook patties in a skillet or grill for 4-5 minutes on each side until desired doneness.
- Add a slice of cheese on each patty in the last minute and cover to melt.
- Assemble burgers with toasted buns, cheese patties, and caramelized onions; garnish with parsley if desired.
Notes
- For extra flavor, use fresh thyme.
- Adjust cooking time based on desired burger doneness.
