Delicious French Onion Sausage Rolls filled with savory flavors and topped with golden puff pastry.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of sausage meat
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • ½ teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of thyme (fresh or dried)
  • 1 cup of shredded cheese (Gruyère or mozzarella work wonders)
  • 1 package of puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the onions in olive oil with salt for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  2. Mix sausage meat, cooked onions, black pepper, thyme, and half of the cheese in a bowl.
  3. Roll out the thawed puff pastry to ¼ inch thick and cut into rectangles (4×6 inches).
  4. Place sausage mixture on one end of each rectangle, sprinkle with cheese, roll tightly, and seal edges.
  5. Brush the tops with beaten egg and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
