Ingredients
Scale
- 1 3/4 cups cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup cup boiling water
- 1/2 cup cup chocolate chips (optional)
- Frosting of your choice
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the boiling water until well blended. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay!
- If using, fold in chocolate chips for that extra chocolatey goodness.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, frost the cake with your favorite frosting and decorate as desired.
