  • 1 3/4 cups cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup cup chocolate chips (optional)
  • Frosting of your choice

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well.
  • Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  • Stir in the boiling water until well blended. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay!
  • If using, fold in chocolate chips for that extra chocolatey goodness.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  • Once cooled, frost the cake with your favorite frosting and decorate as desired.
