Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound squid (cleaned and cut into rings)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Lemon wedges for serving
Instructions
- Start by cleaning the squid. Remove the head and innards, then cut the body into rings. Rinse and pat dry.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, cornstarch, salt, pepper, and chili powder until well combined.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan over medium-high heat. You’ll know it's ready when a small drop of batter sizzles on contact.
- Toss the squid rings in the flour mixture until coated evenly.
- Fry the squid in batches, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve immediately with lemon wedges and your favorite dipping sauce!
