Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup crushed chocolate sandwich cookies
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
- Start by heating about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep pot over medium heat. You can check if it’s hot enough by dropping a small amount of batter in; it should sizzle.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the egg, then add the milk and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- Slowly add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until combined. Don’t overmix; lumps are okay!
- Gently fold in the crushed cookies until evenly distributed.
- Once the oil is hot, spoon the batter into a piping bag or a plastic bag with the corner snipped off.
- Carefully squeeze the batter into the hot oil in circular motions, creating a spiral shape. Fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the bites and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
