Ingredients
Scale
- 6–8 medium-sized apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (plus extra for greasing)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1 sheet puff pastry or homemade tart dough
- as needed tablespoon Flour (for dusting)
- a pinch salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter.
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into quarters. Set them aside.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add the sugar. Stir until it turns a light caramel color, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the apples to the skillet. Cook until they soften and start to caramelize, about 10 minutes. Make sure to stir gently to coat them evenly.
- Once the apples are ready, remove the skillet from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and cinnamon.
- Arrange the apples in the skillet, packing them tightly. Cover them with the pastry, tucking the edges in around the apples.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
- Let the tart cool for about 10 minutes, then carefully flip it onto a serving plate.
- Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
