A delicious upside-down caramelized apple tart that is sure to impress your family and friends!

  • Total Time: 55

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6-8 medium-sized apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (plus extra for greasing)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
  • 1 sheet puff pastry or homemade tart dough
  • as needed tablespoon Flour (for dusting)
  • a pinch salt

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan with butter.
  • Peel, core, and slice the apples into quarters. Set them aside.
  • In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter and add the sugar. Stir until it turns a light caramel color, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add the apples to the skillet. Cook until they soften and start to caramelize, about 10 minutes. Make sure to stir gently to coat them evenly.
  • Once the apples are ready, remove the skillet from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and cinnamon.
  • Arrange the apples in the skillet, packing them tightly. Cover them with the pastry, tucking the edges in around the apples.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown.
  • Let the tart cool for about 10 minutes, then carefully flip it onto a serving plate.
  • Serve warm with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
