  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1/2 tsp vinegar)

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Melt the butter in a 9-inch round cake pan over low heat. Sprinkle brown sugar over the melted butter.
  • Arrange the sliced pears over the brown sugar mixture.
  • In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream together granulated sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually mix in the dry ingredients with alternating buttermilk until just combined.
  • Pour the batter over the pears in the pan, spreading it evenly.
  • Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
