- 1 loaf of French bread (about 12–14 ounces)
- 2 cups fresh blueberries (or frozen if you prefer)
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk (whole or your choice)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Butter (for greasing the baking dish)
Instructions
- Cut French bread into 1-inch cubes.
- Whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt in a bowl.
- Layer half of the bread cubes and blueberries in a greased baking dish, then pour half of the custard mixture over it. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Let casserole sit at room temperature for 15 minutes, then bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool slightly, then serve with powdered sugar or maple syrup.
Notes
- Feel free to substitute blueberries with strawberries or raspberries.
- Adding nutmeg can enhance the flavor.
