- 1 large egg
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- ¼ cup milk
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
For the Gravy
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ½ cup mushrooms, sliced (optional)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Patties
In a large bowl, mix ground beef, onion, egg, breadcrumbs, milk, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Gently combine and form into oval-shaped patties. -
Sear the Patties
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and melt butter. Sear the patties for about 3 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside. -
Make the Gravy
In the same skillet, add butter and flour. Stir continuously for 1-2 minutes, then slowly whisk in beef broth and heavy cream. Simmer until thickened.
-
Assemble and Bake
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place seared patties in a baking dish, pour the gravy over, cover with foil, and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for 10 more minutes.
Notes
- Use quality ground beef for the juiciest patties.
- For a thicker gravy, mix 1 tsp cornstarch with water and add to the sauce.
- Make it ahead by preparing the patties and gravy a day in advance.
- For a slow cooker version, cook on low for 4-5 hours or high for 2-3 hours.
