Ingredients

  • 1 pound of shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 cup of vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup of chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup of chopped green bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup of chopped celery
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 cups of seafood stock
  • 1 tablespoon of Cajun seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley
  • Cooked rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a pot and whisk in flour; stir until the roux is brown (15-20 minutes).
  2. Add chopped onion, bell pepper, and celery; cook for 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in minced garlic; cook for 1 minute.
  4. Pour in seafood stock and add Cajun seasoning, salt, and pepper; simmer for 10 minutes.
  5. Fold in shrimp and cook until pink and opaque (5-7 minutes).
  6. Stir in chopped parsley and serve over rice.

Notes

  • Adjust seasoning according to taste.
  • For added flavor, use homemade seafood stock.
