  • For the cake:
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup sugar
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder

    • 2 large eggs

  • For the topping:
    • 1 cup sliced almonds
    • 1/2 cup honey
    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
    • 1/4 cup sugar
  • For the custard filling:
    • 2 cups milk
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1/4 cup cornstarch
    • 2 large egg yolks
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch cake pan. Cream butter and sugar, then add eggs one at a time.
  2. In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, and stir in vanilla.
  3. Pour batter into the pan and bake for 30 minutes. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then cool completely on a wire rack.
  4. For the topping, melt butter in a saucepan, then add honey, sugar, and almonds. Stir until bubbly and golden brown.
  5. For the custard, whisk milk, sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks in a saucepan. Cook while stirring until thickened, then stir in vanilla and cool.
  6. Slice the cooled cake in half, spread custard on the bottom layer, and top with the other layer. Spread the almond topping over the cake.
  7. Chill for at least an hour before serving. Slice, serve, and enjoy!
