- For the cake:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 2 large eggs

- For the topping:
- 1 cup sliced almonds
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup sugar
- For the custard filling:
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 2 large egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch cake pan. Cream butter and sugar, then add eggs one at a time.
- In another bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to the wet mixture, alternating with milk, and stir in vanilla.
- Pour batter into the pan and bake for 30 minutes. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then cool completely on a wire rack.
- For the topping, melt butter in a saucepan, then add honey, sugar, and almonds. Stir until bubbly and golden brown.
- For the custard, whisk milk, sugar, cornstarch, and egg yolks in a saucepan. Cook while stirring until thickened, then stir in vanilla and cool.
- Slice the cooled cake in half, spread custard on the bottom layer, and top with the other layer. Spread the almond topping over the cake.
- Chill for at least an hour before serving. Slice, serve, and enjoy!
