Description

Tasty Garlic Bread Sloppy Joes with melted cheese on crispy garlic toast. A delicious, hearty twist on the classic sloppy joe sandwich

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 6 slices of Texas toast or thick white bread
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  • Add the chopped onion, green bell pepper, and minced garlic. Sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Stir in ketchup, tomato sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, pepper, paprika, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes until thickened.
  • While the meat mixture is simmering, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the slices of Texas toast on a baking sheet.
  • In a small bowl, mix melted butter with garlic powder. Brush the garlic butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  • Bake the garlic bread in the oven for 5-7 minutes until golden and crispy.
  • Remove the bread from the oven, spoon the sloppy joe mixture over the garlic side of each slice, and sprinkle with shredded cheese.
  • Return to the oven and bake for another 5-7 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner version.
  • Use garlic knots or rolls instead of Texas toast for a fun twist.
  • Add extra red pepper flakes for a spicier flavor.
