Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter (cold, cut into cubes)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 to 4 apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt; add cold butter and mix until crumbly.
  2. Stir in vanilla and add cold water gradually until dough forms.
  3. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. Peel, core, and slice apples; toss with lemon juice, cinnamon, brown sugar, and cornstarch.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Roll out half of the dough and place in a greased baking pan for the bottom crust.
  7. Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crust.
  8. Roll out the second half of the dough, place it over the filling, seal edges, and cut slits for steam.
  9. Brush the top crust with beaten egg.
  10. Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
