Description

A creamy and cheesy potato dish layered with caramelized onions, perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of potatoes (Yukon Gold or Russet work best)
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of dried thyme
  • 1 cup of beef or vegetable broth
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 1 cup of shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Caramelize sliced onions in olive oil with salt for 20-25 minutes.
  3. Wash, peel, and slice potatoes into thin rounds.
  4. Layer potatoes and caramelized onions in a greased baking dish, seasoning with thyme, salt, and pepper.
  5. Mix broth and cream, then pour over the layered ingredients.
  6. Top with Gruyère and Parmesan cheese.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes, then uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

  • Using a mandoline helps achieve uniform potato slices.
  • Let the dish cool slightly before serving for better slicing.
