Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Combine cherries, brown sugar, and water in a saucepan; simmer for 5-7 minutes and set aside.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix melted butter, eggs, vanilla, and buttermilk.
- Combine wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just mixed.
- Pour cherry mixture into a greased 9-inch cake pan, then add the chocolate batter on top.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, checking with a toothpick for doneness.
- Cool for 15 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.
