Char Siu Chicken is a flavorful dish featuring marinated chicken baked to perfection with a delightful char.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds of chicken thighs or breasts (boneless)
  • 1/4 cup of soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup of honey
  • 2 tablespoons of hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon of five-spice powder
  • 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon of red food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine soy sauce, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, five-spice powder, minced garlic, sesame oil, and red food coloring in a bowl.
  2. Add chicken to the marinade, ensuring it’s well-coated, cover, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  3. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  4. Line a baking tray with foil, place a wire rack on top, and arrange the marinated chicken on the rack.
  5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, brushing with additional marinade halfway through.
  6. Turn on the broiler for the last 2-3 minutes for extra char, watching closely.
  7. Let the chicken rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving warm.
