- 2 pounds of chicken thighs or breasts (boneless)
- 1/4 cup of soy sauce
- 1/4 cup of honey
- 2 tablespoons of hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon of rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon of five-spice powder
- 2 cloves of garlic (minced)
- 1 tablespoon of sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon of red food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Combine soy sauce, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, five-spice powder, minced garlic, sesame oil, and red food coloring in a bowl.
- Add chicken to the marinade, ensuring it’s well-coated, cover, and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Line a baking tray with foil, place a wire rack on top, and arrange the marinated chicken on the rack.
- Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, brushing with additional marinade halfway through.
- Turn on the broiler for the last 2-3 minutes for extra char, watching closely.
- Let the chicken rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving warm.

- For best flavor, marinate overnight.
