  3. Add eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to dry ingredients; mix until combined.
  4. Stir in boiling water and black food coloring.
  5. Pour batter into pans and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before decorating.
