Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour cake pans.
- Mix dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to dry ingredients; mix until combined.
- Stir in boiling water and black food coloring.
- Pour batter into pans and bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before decorating.
