Ingredients

  • 4 to 6 cups of sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work great)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 package (2 crusts) refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Prepare the apple filling by washing, peeling, and slicing the apples, then mixing them with sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and cornstarch.
  3. Roll out one pie crust into a baking pan, leaving excess dough over the edges.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into the crust and spread evenly.
  5. Place the second pie crust on top, trim excess dough, and crimp the edges to seal.
  6. Cut slits in the top crust for steam to escape.
  7. Whisk egg and milk, brush over the crust, and bake for 45 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
